Better Hearing and Speech Month

May is Better Hearing and Speech Month. Started by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, this nation-wide celebration provides opportunities to raise awareness about communication disorders and promote treatment that can improve the quality of life for those who experience problems with speaking, understanding, or hearing. Each year during the month of May, HSF will have a host of programs and activities to raise awareness and support for people with hearing loss.

HSF Steps Up for People with Hearing Loss
May 15 was the annual Walk4Hearing in Chattanooga, Tenn., sponsored by the Hearing Loss Association of America. HSF was an Alliance Organization for this event and sent a team of walkers to Chattanooga.Walk4Hearing is the nation's largest series of walks of its kind and is a collaborative walk-a-thon program with the goal of raising awareness and generating funds for national and local programs and services for people with hearing loss. This event began in 2006 with 1,500 people in six cities and has grown from there to include over 3,500 people in 17 cities. In 2008, the annual walk-a-thon raised $760,000 for people with hearing loss.

Next year's event will take place in Chattanooga, Tenn. May 14. Stay tuned for information about how YOU can step up for people with hearing loss.
